Are you in a smoky room?
You may not realize the effects on your mental and physical health until you are at a breaking point. What can you do? Take some time to unplug and reflect. Ask yourself these questions:
When have I felt energized and truly able to be myself at work?
Is my current environment allowing this? Why or why not?
If my environment is not allowing me to be my best, what can I do to change it?
Doing this reflection can help you reconnect with what is important to you and identify unexpected ways to thrive in your current environment.
However in some cases, you just can’t influence the environment enough to be healthy. The longer you stay, the more difficult it will become to be objective and take care of yourself. No one is strong enough to be healthy in a smoky room. So be brutally honest with yourself - is it time to go?
